MONAD Agency’s San Diego 2026 photo exhibition, “Love Letters to San Diego”, granted San Diego photographers the opportunity to showcase the city in ways that differ from the traditional tourist experience. My photos were taken at the cusp of Lemon Grove and La Mesa, where I was raised. The Kiss is intended to represent all of the corners of San Diego reserved for young lovers. The places we sneak off to to be with the people we love throughout our youth. All the spots you take your girl to, the places you can only know about by word of mouth. Its gallery companion, The Lips, is an iconic East County landmark that dates back over 40 years. My greatest intention with this project was to highlight the textures of San Diego that are less likely to be encountered during brief trips to the first city in California, made what it is entirely by the people of color whose vibrant cultures illuminate every fissure of this Kumeyaay land.
