KAYLA MARISSA LIZAOLA

I am a Mexican-American insect ecologist and artist from San Diego, CA. My work explores portrait photography as a storytelling medium. Lesbianism, young adulthood and Chicanismo are common themes.

I graduated from CSUN with a BA in Cinema and Television Arts (Screenwriting) and minor in Biology. Photography and screenwriting have helped me develop my sense of identity outside of academia. Simultaneously, my research experiences have shaped the way I approach photography and have contributed to my attitude towards learning new skills.

I am currently a PhD student studying environmental impact on insect-symbiont acquisition and the role environmental conditions play in symbiont-mediated pesticide resistance at the University of Texas, Arlington.
